The Role of Awareness in Psychotherapy
by Gary Seeman, Ph.D.
Awareness is central to consciousness. The many forms of psychotherapy employ awareness to help clients make wiser choices and better manage their emotional lives. Therapists ask questions to guide their clients’ self-awareness so they can build a more accurate map of themselves and the people and situations they encounter. In this article I survey many psychotherapies and how they use awareness for healing and growth. Here’s the link to the article, which is published in full at Goodtherapy.org and is copyrighted by Gary Seeman, Ph.D., 2009-2016.
